Periphery
These works examine the fringes. Construction, traffic, and mediating facilities such as gas stations all cast a net on our lives. I am interested in the emotional connection (or lack thereof) to the involuntary conflicts of inconvenience we routinely face in order to enjoy the small conveniences of modern life. I enjoy exhausting the tropes of art to articulate my ideas. Sometimes, I'm an expressionist. Other times, a pseudo-impressionist. Sometimes on weekends I'm an airbrush amateur, and so on. Technically, I'm most like a photorealist in that I collect my information and compose my work using a smartphone camera. Many experiments fail, but through these trials I feel that I can find functional art some of the time. As long as it comes from the heart of the gut, its probably a good idea. |
